Project Description
The Egyptian government initiated a comprehensive modernization effort for this regional airport serving Alexandria. The initiative aimed to "turn the airport into a touristic gateway into the country" through substantial infrastructure upgrades.
The expansion program encompassed:
- New passenger terminal (1,000 passengers/hour capacity)
- Cargo terminal (10,000 tonnes/year capacity)
- Aircraft parking and taxiway infrastructure (10 aircraft capacity)
- Air traffic control tower with auxiliary structures
- Aircraft fuel station
- Administrative and utility buildings
In July 2007, the Egyptian Airports Company contracted this work at a cost of 550 million Egyptian Pounds (approximately $97 million USD).
Argonaut's Scope
Argonaut was subcontracted for mechanical works, specifically the fueling system installation:
- Two single-wall storage tanks (22,500 L and 10,000 L)
- Tank accessories (vent, overflow, spill containment, couplers)
- Cast iron transfer pump with related equipment
